Clients frequently tell us that uplighting made more impact and garnered more compliments than any other event decoration. Here’s a closer look at everything you need to know about uplighting for your event.
STEP 1: CHOOSE A LIGHTING STYLE
The first step is to think about the type of look that you want to achieve. Are you planning a dramatic, showstopper event, or a low-key corporate dinner? Here are three options for your lighting style.
MAXIMUM COVERAGE: Choose maximum coverage for a “wow” effect. This means that every inch of wall will be covered in lighting, and the entire room will glow in color. Uplights are spaced close together around the entire room.
MODERATE COVERAGE: This is the best option for setting the mood without being overly dramatic. Uplights are spaced around the entire room, but spread further apart.
ACCENT UPLIGHTING: This look adds interest to specific areas of the venue, rather than illuminating the entire room. Uplights are placed strategically, such as behind a podium or cake table.
STEP 2: DETERMINE QUANTITY
The next step is to determine the quantity of uplights required. All you need to do is get the measurements for the room, and calculate as follows:
Maximum Coverage: Space uplights 5 feet apart
Moderate Coverage: Space uplights 10 feet apart
Accent Lighting: Use 1 – 4 uplights for each targeted area of venue
Tip: Use our uplighting calculator to quickly estimate your quantity based on room dimensions, square footage, or seating capacity.
STEP 3: RENT UPLIGHTING
Rent uplighting locally or online. As a benchmark, our uplighting rentals are $19/each, including shipping both ways.
STEP 4: SETUP UPLIGHTING
You can easily setup the uplighting in a matter of minutes. Just follow these 3 easy steps:
- Plug the power cord into an outlet
- Press button on light to select color
- Place light on floor, up against wall
You’re done! Uplights can be linked together with power cords so that you only need one outlet. (No outlets? Try battery-powered, wireless uplighting!).
So, that’s everything you need to know about uplighting! This is a great way to add ambiance to your next event. The best part is that any event planner can learn how to use this lighting technique. Until next time, happy planning!
