We had so much fun transforming a banquet hall last weekend! The venue started out with basic beige walls and “well used” banquet chairs. In less than an hour, our team of 4 do-it-yourselfers made the ballroom come to life with emerald green uplighting, custom monogram light, cake spotlights, and spandex chair covers! Here’s how to get the look:
We used 24 standard uplights for this 91′ x 32′ (3,368 sq ft) ballroom. The wedding colors were emerald and aqua, so we chose a rich emerald green tone for the uplighting. (TIP: We programmed the colors the day before to save some time on the wedding day). The ballroom was completely transformed by placing uplights 10 feet apart around the perimeter of the room. We also added two extra uplights behind the cake table to add impact. (This was a total of 3 uplights behind the cake table, spaced about 3 feet apart).
- Monogram Lighting
To personalize the reception, we created a custom monogram light with the bride and groom’s names. (Design #W20 with font from #W23). For setup, we placed the projector on a table and pointed it towards the wall behind the cake table. The photographer captured some lovely images with the monogram and cake, AND it turned out to be a fun backdrop for selfies!
- Table Glow for Sweetheart Table
- Cake Spotlights / Centerpiece Spotlights
For the perfect finishing touch, we used spotlights (also called pinspotting) to highlight the wedding cake and centerpieces. We used 1 spotlight for the wedding cake, and one spotlight for each of the centerpieces (7 total). The spotlights have a magnetic base that attaches to any metal surface. This venue had chandeliers above each table, so all we had to do is stick the magnetic spotlights onto the chandeliers and point the lights down. This really made the centerpieces pop!
- Spandex Banquet Chair Covers
Finally, we worked some magic on the banquet chairs with spandex chair covers. Check out the before and after!
- Starry Night Lighting
We couldn’t resist playing around with some other lighting after we finished setting up. Just for fun, here’s a look at the starry night lighting (aka blisslight) in action. One blisslight covered about half of the venue, and we aimed it at the ceiling over the dance floor.
The cost for all of the decorations for this 70 guest wedding reception was under $1,000! Here’s the breakdown:
