Welcome to Theme Thursday! We’re kicking off a blog series of inspiration and ideas to help plan the perfect event! This week will feature an “Under the Sea with XYZ” theme, which is perfect for a sorority or fraternity winter or spring formal.
First things first: think about your “Under the Sea” vision. Are you thinking anchors and lifesavers, mermaids and tropical fish, or starfish and seashells? By deciding on the direction of your theme, it will help focus your party planning and bring your vision to life.
Uplighting is perfect for transforming a venue into a dramatic and magical underwater extravaganza. Place blue and green uplights 5-10feet apart around the perimeter of the room to wash the walls in color. Add depth to the room by incorporating different shades of blues and greens. We love how the event featured above also added splashes of fuchsia uplighting for contrast!
Gobo monogram lighting is also a great way to create an Under the Sea look. Use pattern gobos to create bubbles on the walls, floor, or ceiling. It looks especially perfect when paired with aqua blue uplighting!
Is your vision to create a more upscale and formal Under the Sea effect? This gorgeous setup below features an elegant, teal patterned gobo for the dance floor and light blue uplighting around the perimeter of the room. Tall glass centerpieces with white tulips tie this look together perfectly.
Tall pieces of coral and seashells make great alternatives to flower centerpieces. Fill glass vases with shells, water, and floating candles to incorporate a few ocean elements.
